Polypeptide is a group of compounds with a molecular structure between an amino acid and a protein, and often refers to an active compound consisting of NMT 100 amino acids. Polypeptides are synthesized by two main pathways: chemical synthesis and biosynthesis. Small molecule peptides with less than 50 amino acids have advantages for synthesis using chemical methods. However, there is a possibility of amino acid racemization in chemical synthesis, and some molecules contain more modified amino acid residues that cause much trouble in chemical synthesis. Biosynthesis is characterized by the advantages of short cycle time, simple operation, low cost and high protein yield, and still has a great application value in production of many small molecule peptides.
